RSS stands for
Really Simple Syndication. It is a type of regulations that
provide convenience for checking and reading updated information
or news on websites. If sites offer changed or newly updated
information according to the regulation of RSS, users can
read the contents using a program (usually called RSS Reader)
that supports RSS. |

What can be done using RSS? |
|
| RSS is widely
known as a good tool for collecting contents because of the
great convenience it provides. For example, without RSS, if
you have to check updated information from 10 websites, you
have to open a browser and visit each and every one of ten
sites. If you want to check again in one hour, you have to
repeat the whole steps again. However, if those 10 web sites
offer RSS service, then you can check any updated information
from all of ten sites within couple of seconds. In addition,
it automatically checks any updated information periodically. |

How is it different from emails? |
|
| Emails and
RSS may not seem to have any big difference in the aspect
that both of their functions are carrying the information
from the sites to the users. However, they are not the same
at all. First of all, if you want any updating new information
or receiving newsletters through emails, you have to tell
your email address to each and every website. In addition,
the letters might go to spam mailbox. But in case of RSS,
all you have to do is to input the address of RSS the site
gives you, then you can gather the information very easily.
When you do not want to receive the information any more,
you just have to remove the address from the list of your
RSS. |

| |
|
| Although it
is possible to open and view RSS link using a browser, it
is not very user-friendly. However, if you import addresses
using a RSS reader, it organizes and shows the data in a user-friendly
format. There is a popular program called SharpReader, and
many people also seem to register for website, Blogliness,
which works like RSS Reader. You can find more Readers at
RSS Reader page in RSS Calendar or at Aggregators page of
Technology at Harvard Law. If the program that enables you
to read RSS is ready, you should go download RSS now, right??

|
For there are
different kinds of RSS Reader programs, it is better to download
the program based on each user’s system environment.
For more details on how to use, please refer to the web site
of each program.
