AC Resonant Test Systems consist basically of a high voltage variable inductor and a small exciter transformer. The high voltage variable inductor is used to tune the capacitance of the test object to resonance at the operating frequency. In this way, all the familiar advantages of the resonant circuit are made available for high voltage test applications
Resonant test systems are designed for high voltage testing of capacitive test objects such as power cable, generators, bushings, capacitors, certain types of transformer tests, and conditioning and proof testing of SF6 gas insulated equipment especially after installation in the field. The equipment is available in either series or parallel resonant systems and may be designed to be used in either configuration for many applications.
