| The variety of products and coatings that can be enhanced by thermal spray are virtually limitless. The coatings are usually metallic, ceramic, carbides, or a combination of these materials to meet a range of physical criteria.
Method The basic principles of all thermal spray coating processes are similar; a powder or wire is fed through a spray gun, heated until molten or soft, and projected at high speed onto a substrate which then solidifies to form a coating. The density of the coating is dependent on the material, the state of the particle (solid/liquid ratio) on impact and the particle velocity. The bond between a sprayed coating and the substrate is primarily mechanical (not metallurgical or fused). Adhesion of the coating to the substrate depends on all of these factors plus the condition of the substrate surface, which must be roughened by grit blasting or machining and cleaned thoroughly prior to spraying. Benefits Of Thermal Spray Coatings 1. Wide range of coating compositions (carbides, alloys, metals, etc) available to suit many different operating environments 2. No heat treatments are required 3. Components can be coated many times 4. Repaired parts can have longer service life than new manufacture parts 5. Repair costs, and turnaround times, can also be significantly less than replacement costs and lead times 6. Enables cheaper substrate materials to be used 7. Components deemed unserviceable can be reclaimed 8. Can be used to replace chrome plating and/or other coatings Anber offer a selection of thermal spray technologies, each bringing their own advantages. |
