Lidocaine plaster is composed of three layers: the backing film, the drug matrix and the liner. The polyethylene backing film is comfortable to wear, and provides low moisture vapor transmission and high oxygen transmission rates. The drug matrix layer is stytrene-isoprene-styrene rubber based. The characteristics of drug matrix layer are good adhesion and high penetration of drug into the skin for rapid onset of action. The liner which is made up of silicone surface modified polyester film is removed easily from the drug matrix for application. The Lidocaine transdermal plaster is a local anesthetic containing formulation that allows rapid, sustained and long acting local anesthesia for decreasing the sting of cannulation.
