Why BETO Sleep Coach?
Prevent Obesity
Persistently short sleep duration (<10 h) during early childhood significantly increases the risk of excess weight or obesity in childhood, and appears to be independent of other obesogenic factors. - Evelyne Touchette, Dominique Petit, Richard E. Tremblay, Michel Boivin, Bruno Falissard, Christophe Genolini and Jacques Y. Montplaisir, [SHORT SLEEP DURATION AND PEDIATRIC WEIGHT - Associations Between Sleep Duration Patterns and Overweight/Obesity at Age 6], SLEEP, 2008
Brain Development
23 infants probabilities of a growth saltation associated with
sleep included a median odds ratio of 1.20 for each additional hour and 1.43 for each additional sleep bout. - Michelle Lampl and Michael L. Johnson, [Infant Growth in Length Follows
Prolonged Sleep and Increased Naps, SLEEP, May, 2011
Growth
In this month's British Medical Journal, there's a report on a study demonstrating the relationship of sleep to brain development in kids.
It is called the Millennium cohort Study, and it followed 11,000 children. Those children who demonstrated irregular bedtimes up to the age of three were the most negatively affected when it came to reading, math skills and spatial awareness. When followed over time, they continued to lag developmentally even by the age of seven -and girls more than boys.
The authors concluded that the first three years of life seem to be a particularly sensitive time for sleep and its relationship to brain development - Robert Rosenberg, 'Sleep Critically Affects Childhood Brain Development', Huffing post US, July, 13th, 2013
