English Name: Omega-3, also known as Omega; -3, w-3, n-3

Definition:

In chemical structure, Omega-3 is a long chain of carbon and hydrogen atoms (more than 18 carbon atoms), with 3-6 unsaturated bonds (double bonds). Omega-3 is named because its unsaturated bond is located on the third carbon atom at the end of the methyl group. The main members of Omega-3 family are DHA and EPA. DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid) is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which is common in deep-sea fish and some plants. DHA accounts for about 15-20% of the weight of cerebral cortex. DHA also accounts for 30-60% of the retina.

There are three main components of omega-3 fatty acids. The important omega-3 essential fatty acids include alpha-linolenic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), all of which are polyunsaturated fatty acids.

The first is plant-derived ALA alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with three double bonds.

Alpha-linolenic acid accounted for 67% of perilla seed oil, 55% of flaxseed oil, 42% of peony seed oil, 32% of seabuckthorn seed oil, 20% of Bama hemp oil, 10% of rapeseed oil, 8% of soybean oil and 50% of star oil rattan oil.

At present, the highest content of alpha-linolenic acid found in nature is perilla seed oil.

The second and third are eicosapen taenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are derived from fish, animal and seal.
