North Star’s new 8,000m² workshop and raw materials yard was
completed in summer 2014.
We have the capability to manufacture Blast Pipe from 89 to 340mm,
with 2015 capacity targeted at 3,000 pipes.
Pipes up to 140mm may be friction welded or submerged-arc welded;
from 152mm up, the pipe bodies and tool joints are shrink-fitted and
submerged-arc welded on one of our two SAW machines.
We implement 100% magnetic particle testing of the weld area.
Tool joints are subjected to both ultrasonic flaw testing and magnetic
particle inspection.

ABOUT NORTH STAR
Our origins date back to 1998, when the North factory was established in Xuanhua, three hours north of Beijing. Among Norths earliest partners was Ingersoll Rand, also based in Xuanhua at the time. North developed rapidly to produce a wide range of drilling equipment including DTH drill pipes for mining, water well and exploration drilling, plus HDD pipes and tools such as reamers and swivels. In 2012 HDD drill pipe production moved to a new facility, China Star, which was co-invested by Petromaterials China, an API-certified manufacturer of drill pipe drill collars for the oil and gas industry. North has since focused on drilling tools for mining, water well/geothermal, and civil construction applications. Today more than 160 workers, including 14 R&D staff, are employed in the original 20,000 square-meter North factory. Annual production capacity is 100,000 pipes, of which more than 90% fall into the DTH/Rotary category. A new 8,000-square meter workshop has been completed that will double capacity in 2015. China Star employs 100 staff on a 12,000 square-meter site. Annual capacity is 100,000 HDD pipes. The North Star company and brand were established in 2012 to unify sales and marketing of the factories products on the international market. North Stars head office is in Beijing. Its President, Michael Lyu, is concurrently head of both the North and China Star factories.
