Ginger is commonly used as a spice, known for its sweet aroma and harsh taste. Originated in India, ginger is also used medicinally known to treat many ailments. Ginger oil, extracted from the root of ginger is also a healthy way to go. Most of the health benefits of ginger are due to the presence of Gingerol an acrid compound.

Ginger oil contains analgesic, anti-emetic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, bactericidal, carminative, cephalic, expectorant, febrifuge, laxative, rubefacient, stimulant, stomachic, sudorific and tonic therapeutic properties.

Ginger oil is extracted by a process called steam distillation from the unpeeled root of the plant. One of the benefits of ginger oil is that is has no known contraindications and it is regarded as safe.

Ginger can be used to treat nausea and motion sickness, so it is good carrier oil for travelers.

Ginger oil treats colds and influenza and especially for catarrhal lung conditions and rheumatic pain.

Ginger oil can also be used on the skin to help clear bruises, congestion, coughs, sinusitis, sores on the skin, sore throat, diarrhea, colic, cramps, chills and fever.
Ginger oil is pale yellow to a darker amber in colour and can also be used to help with mood swings, adding 2-3 drops place on a cotton ball and inhale 2-3 times per day can relax the mind.

To revitalize libido, use 2-3 drops in carrier oil and use as a massage.

Ginger is helpful for male health as well. Since ginger root and its oil are aphrodisiac in nature, it is effective in eliminating impotency and preventing premature ejaculation.

Ginger oil is often topically massaged on aching muscles to remove muscle strain.

Ginger oil stimulates the appetite and is used in cooking.

Although sometimes given to pregnant women to combat morning sickness, ginger oil should be avoided during pregnancy.
