Elastic Rail Clip
The PR401 rail clip, also known as an elastic rail clip, is a crucial component in railway track construction, securing the rails to the underlying base plate and concrete sleeper.
The PR401 clip was used on railway lines from 1960 to 1984, particularly on F23 and F27 sleepers. The original PR401 clip had a round toe, but this was replaced by the flat PR401A in 1970 due to wear issues.
These clips are typically made from forged spring steel, which is produced by a hot forging process, offering a uniform microstructure and superior performance compared to other metal forming processes.
The PR401 clip must be inserted using a pin puller, and a hammer should not be used, as it can damage the rail or sleeper.
There are different types of rail clips, including Pandrol PR clips, Vossloh SKL clips, Nabla clips, and others.
