Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is an inorganic compound . This compound is characterized by its white, crystalline appearance and is available in both powder and granular forms. It has a relative density of 0.7 to 1.0 and a melting point of 72.2°C. It is highly soluble in water and alkaline solutions but insoluble in alcohol and acids. Its aqueous solutions are alkaline in nature and possess properties such as descaling, emulsifying, dispersing, wetting, and penetrating, as well as having a buffering capacity for pH levels [^1018^]。 In various industries, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate serves multiple purposes. It is commonly used as an efficient assistant in laundry detergents, metal cleaners, and dishwashing agents. It plays a significant role in the cotton yarn steaming process and is also utilized for the removal of ink from old paper, printing decontamination, and vegetable oil recovery. Furthermore, it can act as a stabilizer for peroxide bleaching [^1018^]。 The compound is prepared by reacting sodium silicate with sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate under high temperature and pressure, followed by crystallization, separation, and drying to obtain the final product [^1018^]。 When it comes to safety, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is packaged in woven bags lined with polyethylene plastic bags, with tight sealing. Each bag typically weighs 25kg, 40kg, or 50kg and is marked with 'moisture-proof' and 'rain-proof' labels. It should be stored in a cool, ventilated, and dry place, and care should be taken to protect it from moisture, rain, and direct sunlight during transportation [^1018^]。
