Eomycin (epothilone) is a class of macrolide compounds first reported by G. Hofle et al by the German National Center for Biotechnology (GBF) in 1993. Eomycin can be isolated from the fermentation broth of the myxobacterium suborder, and its main components are Epothilone A and B. Their activities similar to paclitaxel tubulin polymerization and inhibition of microtubule depolymerization make it a new generation of anti-antimitotic drugs, similar to paclitaxel drugs, can bind with tubulin to make cancer cells unable to undergo mitosis, and then cancer cells to produce apoptosis. Ebomycin is superior to paclitaxel in antitumor spectrum, antitumor activity, safety, water solubility and synthetic methods, and is expected to develop into a more effective antitumor drug than paclitaxel. It shares the same mechanism of action as paclitaxel to inhibit tumor cell growth, and exhibits potent anticancer activity against both multidrug-resistant tumor cells and paclitaxel-resistant tumor cells.
